Extended Access Clinic

Do you work late? Do you find it difficult to attend the surgery during normal surgery hours? If so we are pleased to be able to offer you our Extended Access Clinic.

Please ask at Reception for our Monday, alternate Thursday and alternate Saturday morning opening hours.

Making an appointment with the doctor

Appointments may be made in person or by telephone (01743) 231817 during opening hours.  

Unless your doctor is on holiday, or unless the matter is urgent and your doctor is unavailable, we ask that you see your usual doctor. If you wish to speak to the Receptionist in confidence, please ask. 

An appointment with a doctor is always available within 48 hrs, although this may not be with the doctor of your choice. We have appointments for urgent matters every day. Please tell the Receptionist if you need to see a doctor urgently. 

Patients who have not been seen at the practice for 3 years, and are between the ages of 16 and 75, may request a consultation during surgery hours.  Where a consultation is provided under this arrangement, appropriate enquiries will be made and examinations carried out as appear appropriate in the circumstances. 

Patients aged 75 years and over who have not been see at the practice for 12 months may also request a consultation during surgery hours as above.  Where it is considered inappropriate for the patient to attend the practice owing to their medical condition, this consultation will take place in the patient’s home. 

When arriving for your appointment please check-in using our electronic screen. 

Please make every effort to attend your appointment, although if you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as you are able so we can give this slot to somebody else.

Telephone advice

The doctors are available to give advice over the telephone. Appointments for telephone consultations can be made through Reception at your request.  

Home Visits

Home visits are available to the housebound and to those too ill to come to the Surgery. If a visit is required on the same day, please try to contact the Surgery before 10.30 a.m.  A doctor will usually ring you prior to visiting.

Visiting is time-consuming. It is therefore helpful if you can attend the Surgery if at all possible. For example, if you have a sick child but fear waiting in the surgery, please explain the situation to the Receptionist.

In  an emergency, when the surgery is closed in the evenings and weekends, a message is left on our surgery telephone to ring ‘SHROPDOC’ on 08444 06 8888. 

A trained nurse will assess your medical needs. If required, the nurse will arrange for you to be contacted to attend a timed appointment at Radbrook Green Surgery. Advice may be sufficient. 

If you are housebound or it would be inappropriate for you to travel, a home visit can be arranged. 

The doctors who work for SHROPDOC are trained General Practitioners. Occasionally, a registrar General Practitioner will be on duty under the supervision of one of the local doctors. 

The details of the consultation and treatment you receive are confidential and are forwarded to your surgery when it next opens. 

Patients requiring stitches, or with suspected broken bones, are advised to go directly to the A&E department at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital / Princess Royal Hospital (or nearest A&E).
