POLICY FOR REMOVAL OF PATIENTS FROM PRACTICE LIST
There may be circumstances when it would be considered reasonable, or in the best interests of the patient, to remove patients from the list. Radbrook Green Surgery maintains a clear policy to remove patients from our list under the following circumstances:
Violence: We have a zero tolerance towards violent, abusive or racist actions and will remove a patient from our list when a patient:
- Is physically violent or threatening towards a doctor, Practice staff or other patients.
- Causes physical damage to Practice premises or other patient’s property.
- Gives verbal abuse or makes threats towards the doctor, Practice staff or other patients.
- Gives racist abuse, orally or physically.
- Is violent or uses or condones threatening behaviour to doctors (or some other members of the primary health care team) while visiting the patient’s home. Such behaviour may involve the patient, a relative, a household member, or pets (such as unchained dogs).
Crime & Deception: Radbrook Green Surgery will not tolerate illegal activities on the premises and will remove a patient who:
- Fraudulently obtains drugs for non-medical reasons.
- Deliberately lies to the doctor or other member of the primary health care team in order to obtain a service or benefit by deception.
- Attempts to use the doctor to conceal or aid any criminal activity.
- Steals from Practice premises.
Distance: We have a mandated requirement to be able to provide appropriate clinical response to our patients at their place of residence. If a patient moves out of the designated Practice area they will be invited to register with a new GP whose Practice area they would now fall.
- Due to historical reasons, we have a sizeable percentage of our current list who reside outside of our Practice area. These patients are welcome to remain with this Practice until such time as they notify us of change of address. If the new address is outside of the designated area they will be asked to register with a new GP.
- We are aware that there may be some circumstances where such a patient may wish to justify their retention with the Practice and if this is the case they may write to the Practice Manager. The case will then be judged on merit by the Partnership.
We also reserve the right to remove patients from our list under the following circumstances:
- Where a patient has moved abroad for a period of 3 months of more.
- Where a patient fails to attend pre-booked appointments on a number of occasions.
- Where there is an irretrievable Breakdown of the Doctor-Patient Relationship.
