Services Offered

Women’s Health
Drs Callahan and Hart offer family planning appointments for coil and implant fittings. All the doctors and nurses offer appointments for discussion of women’s health and contraceptive problems.

Menopause Service
Sister Michele Davies is available to discuss menopause problems and will be happy for you to make an appointment to see her if you would like advice.

Chiropody
NHS chiropody is available by appointment only. If you require this service please contact reception.

Phlebotomy
An appointment can be made on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings between 9.00 a.m. and 11.30 for all blood tests.
Please contact the reception staff to organise this.

Continence Advice
A Continence Advisor visits our Surgery in the afternoons on the second Monday of every month. This service is for any adult. If you feel that you might benefit from this service, telephone (01743) 353637.

Radish
Sister Emma Fewtrell and HCA Sandra Hoof run the RADISH Clinic (Reduction in Atherosclerotic Disease In SHropshire). The clinic is designed to tackle the risk factors associated with atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). You will be invited to attend this clinic if your doctor feels it is necessary. Clinic appointments are sent when review is due.

Physiotherapy
Alan Leigh and Jean Denton provide a physiotherapy service within the Surgery. Please see a doctor for an initial assessment. Occasionally it may be appropriate to arrange a telephone consultation, for example, if physiotherapy has been advised following an accident or surgery. It is NOT possible for us to provide a domiciliary service.

Holistic Massage Therapy
Massage has been found to improve circulation, joint range-of-motion and flexibility. It can reduce many common ailments such as stress, muscle tightness, aches and pains - even anxiety and depression.Click here for more information.

Smoking Cessation
Do you want to give up smoking? Sister Emma Fewtrell is in charge of the 'Shropshire Stop Smoking' programme and you can make an appointment for advice and support by contacting the Surgery.

Travel
The Travel Advice Clinic is run by our nurses. Please ensure that you leave enough time to have all the injections required well before your holiday. We are a Yellow Fever Centre.

Antenatal Care

All the doctors provide care during normal pregnancy, delivery and post-natally. Most patients deliver in the General Practitioner Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. However, if special care is needed, we share care with the local hospital consultants. The Midwife runs an antenatal clinic at the Surgery on Wednesday mornings. Minor Surgery

We carry out a variety of minor surgery procedures at the surgery. Apart from the routine “lumps and bumps”, we undertake cryotherapy for warts etc. Minor surgery sessions are normally carried out on Mondays and Fridays by Dr. Simon Reid, Dr. Nigel Russell and Dr Nick Durrell, but you need to see your own doctor before an appointment is offered. Unfortunately, cosmetic surgery is not available on the NHS at the current time. Please discuss this with your doctor.

Asthma and COPD

Sister Joanne Allen runs the Respiratory Clinics. Letters are sent to patients when review is due. Please make a normal surgery appointment if you have any respiratory problems between your clinic reviews.

Diabetic

Dr Annatina Mangham runs these clinics with the assistance of our nurses. Clinic appointments are sent when review is due.

Our Practice nurses are available by appointment for:

Health checks
New patient medical examinations
Annual “over 75” check-ups
Travel advice and immunisations
Blood tests
Blood pressure checks
Ear syringing
Cervical smears
Dressing of wounds
Removal of sutures
Minor ailments
Menopause Service
Other referrals which the doctor may arrange

If you wish to see the Practice Nurse or Health-Care Assistant please make an appointment in the same way in which you would for a doctor.

Please let the receptionist know why you need the appointment, eg for an injection or dressing, so that we can know how much time to reserve.

Services Outside the NHS

Some services are not covered by the NHS, and a fee may be charged.

These include:

Private medical certificates for employers
Insurance and company reports and claim forms
Medical examinations and reports for employment, sporting activities (such as diving and parachuting)
HGV and PSV licences
Statements about health and fitness, e.g. driving, fitness to travel, holiday cancellations, etc.
Some travel vaccinations

To request any of these please contact reception.

Test Results

test_results If you have had x-rays or blood tests etc., you may enquire about the result without seeing the doctor.

All results are screened by the doctor and it is your responsibility to contact the Surgery for your results 3 or 4 days after the specimen has been sent to the laboratory.

Normal test results will be given over the telephone. However, you may be asked to make an appointment with the doctor to discuss the result.

Please telephone after 2pm for all test results.

Please note that the rules of confidentiality do not allow us to give test results to anyone other than the patient.

Non- NHS Fees

Not all services at the Practice are available on the NHS. Where patients request non-NHS items or services a private fee may be payable in advance. We will be reviewing our fees and implementing changes on the 17th September 2012. For more information please contact reception.

Stop Smoking and Stop Smoking in pregnancy.

Through our Pin Point for Health service, Radbrook Green Surgery provides free NHS Stop Smoking and Stop Smoking in Pregnancy support to residents in Shropshire. Smokers wishing to quit are four times as likely to succeed through an NHS support scheme as compared with attempting to quit on their own.

What to do next.........

If you've made the decision to quit and are unsure where to go to get the support and guidance you need, don't worry; your local NHS Stop Smoking Service is there to help. For all the confidential help and advice you need to quit smoking call your local Stop Smoking Service on 0844 4069 923 or text 'QUIT' to 80800.

You will be able to secure a stop smoking support appointment with either Emma Fewtrell, Sandra Hoof, Heidi Pritchard or Marta Szalpuk at our surgery.

Shropshire Start Slimming

* Is your BMI greater than 30?

* Are you motivated to address your diet and physical activity to lose weight?

* Our Help 2 Slim clinics offer confidential one-to-one support with a nurse. The programme runs for 1 full year.

Extended Access Clinic

Do you work late? Do you find it difficult to attend the surgery during normal surgery hours? If so we are pleased to be able to offer you our Extended Access Clinic. Please ask at reception for our Monday, alternate Thursday and alternate Saturday morning opening hours.

Out of Hours

In an emergency, when the surgery is closed in the evenings and weekends, a message is left on our surgery telephone to ring ‘SHROPDOC’ on 08444 06 8888.

Home Visits

Home visits are available to the housebound and to those too ill to come to the Surgery. If a visit is required on the same day, please try to contact the Surgery before 10.30 a.m. A doctor will usually ring you prior to visiting.

Free Prescriptions for Cancer Patients

People being treated for cancer will be eligible for free prescriptions from 1st April 2009 and can apply for free prescriptions from today.

The new scheme, announced by the Prime Minister in September last year, abolishes NHS prescription charges for everyone undergoing treatment for cancer, the effects of cancer, or the effects of cancer treatment.

All cancer patients are entitled to apply for a 5-year exemption certificate, which will entitle them to all their NHS prescriptions free of charge, not just those relating to cancer. The certificate can be renewed as many times as necessary and will not have to be returned if the patient’s condition changes.

Patients should contact their doctor to apply for exemptions.
